  • Marc Evans

    Marc has made great strides towards community wildfire safety in a short time. He began in 2020, helping start a Firewise Neighborhood in North Orinda and joined the volunteer Orinda Firewise Council, now the Moraga Orinda Firewise Network (MOFN). He is currently the MOFN Chairperson, coordinating efforts across 40 Firewise Neighborhoods throughout Moraga, Orinda, Bollinger and Canyon. Additionally, Marc is a Wildfire Safety Community Ambassador for the Moraga Orinda Fire District (MOFD).

    Marc spearheaded the effort to start Fire Safe Moraga-Orinda (FSMO) non-profit in 2023 at the suggestion of MOFD Fire Chief Dave Winnacker and is currently the President.

  • Sandy Gross

    Sandy and his wife Paula have lived in Orinda for almost 40 years. He has served on the Educational Fund in Orinda (now called ONE} and raised money for the public schools for 12 years. He is currently a block captain for his neighborhood Firewise community. Sandy joined the board to help raise funds for others in the Orinda and Moraga communities to create defensible space for their homes and is currently the Treasurer.

  • Don Mahoney

    Don and his wife have lived in Moraga since 1989. Together they raised two children, and Don spent many years coaching boys and girls LMYA basketball.

    Professionally, Don started his career as a software engineer, but in 2012, he transitioned to new career as a financial consultant to non-profit organizations in the SF Bay Area, with emphasis on helping organizations prepare for audits.

    Don is the coordinator for the Warfield Firewise community and is working with neighbors to expand into the broader Corliss Neighborhood.

  • Tim Staines

    Tim moved from Maryland to Moraga in November of 2018 and was immediately motivated to become involved in wildfire-related volunteering. After the Camp Fire devastated Paradise he enrolled in a course through Lamorinda CERT to learn about local emergency preparedness and response. He became a Block Captain in the Campolindo Firewise group in 2019, and an MOFD Community Ambassador in 2025. He currently serves on Moraga's Local Sales Tax Oversight Committee. Before moving to California, he had a career in digital marketing and web development and is now a local handyman who enjoys exploring the natural environments of the West Coast with his family of four.

  • Rebecca Verity

    Rebecca Verity currently leads the Western Region climate adaptation practice for an international engineering firm. Her 20+ years of experience in climate change and infrastructure includes the preparation of adaptation plans to safeguard cities, counties and regional infrastructure against floods, wildfire, and extreme weather. She has authored national guidance on climate risks and resilience, and op-eds on surviving a more combustible California. An award winning communicator, she has helped her clients win millions of dollars in community resilience grants.

    Concurrent to her consulting career, Ms. Verity has volunteered for multiple nonprofits, served as a planning commissioner for the city of Orinda, served four years as a Moraga-Orinda wildfire ambassador, and has been known to take leaves of absence from work to teach summer courses at UC Berkeley.

    She is passionate about working with community members to protect what matters most.

  • Rob Schroeder

    Rob Schroeder serves as the Executive Director for Fire Safe Moraga Orinda and is the ‘Boots on the Ground” member of the organization. Rob first became involved with wildfire safety after moving into the Sleepy Hollow neighborhood of Orinda. He soon volunteered to be the Fire Safety Liaison for his neighborhood and is a Firewise leader as well. Rob is a MOFD Wildfire Safety Community Ambassador and is the current president of the Rescue 1 Foundation non-profit.

  • Melanie Light - Board Advisor

    Melanie Light has been a resident and volunteer in Orinda for over 25 years. She founded the Orinda Firewise Council and served on Orinda’s Supplemental Sales Tax Oversight Committee for three years. She has also served on various committees for her daughter's elementary school, Orinda Park Pool and the steering committee of the American Photographers Archives Group West, among others. Melanie has had an extensive career in the photography and art fields, including, as founder and executive director of Fotovision, a nonprofit in support of documentary photography. Currently, she works as an art consultant and art appraiser.
